Body pulled from ocean near Harbor Beach in York, Maine

A body was pulled from the ocean Friday, according to police.

Police received a 911 call at 3:55 p.m. reporting a possible drowning offshore from Harbor Beach. Police responded, along with the York Village Fire Department and York Beach Fire Department.

York police Sgt. Brian McNeice said a boat operated by York’s harbor master brought the person to shore on Western Point Road despite the high surf. McNeice said resuscitation attempts were made by rescue personnel, but the person was pronounced deceased on the scene.

Police said the identity of the victim was being withheld pending family notification. No further information was immediately available.
